Galaxy 9+ & Making Calls w/a Menu

Hello. When I get a menu on a phone call, they ask to Press 1, Press 2, etc. I can never make the choice b/c their phone number (the one that I called) is still showing. Pressing a menu number only tacks it onto the existing/original number, thereby giving me "invalid" responses. Is there a way...
