Replacement for our "10"

I'm considering the 10 this year, though the S8 is a better size for me (but fragile, and do I trust Samsung long-term, since I don't churn devices annually?). Apart from the display I don't see much advantage of the European G6 over the 10.

My instinct is not to judge the U until I've seen it, but it seems certain it's a 5.5" 16:9 device, and I don't want anything that big (my wife's 10 is a struggle for me to operate one-handed, never mind anything wider - which is why the S8 is in contention), so it's likely that the U won't work for me for that reason, never mind the rest. But I don't think my battery will last until the following generation of devices, so fear I'm going to have to buy at a time when there's no clear choice.
